The Uninvited Guest

In this very breath that we take now lies the secret that all great masters try to tell us.

The only true gift is a portion of thyself.

The Uninvited Guest

There was no movement
away from the sorrow
in any direction.
It was an uninvited guest
taking refuge
in my home,
lingering like a fat cat
sprawled out
in the morning sun.
What could I do
except try to understand
all the things I’ve done
up until this moment.
To make full use of my time,
to sit and accept
this strange intruder.
Hoping perhaps to gain
some insights,
to find in sorrow
some secret joy.
